I am Abel Tadesse, the founder of Penguin Imports and Xports. The idea to create this website came to me while I was working as a chef in my own cafe in Tempe, Arizona, several years ago. While I was running my cafe as a head chef, I had the opportunity to work very closely with the local farmers that were providing fresh fruits and vegetables to our cafe, as our menu was mainly plant-based and seasonal.
Working with locally grown produce in a place like Arizona, which is considered a desert, blew my mind, as these farmers were incredibly talented to be able to work such land. Being born in Ethiopia, I always dreamed of having the chance to work with Ethiopian farmers, not only because of my childhood connection but also to realize my long-held ambition to help.
As the world continues to grapple with poverty and inequality, it was important for me to recognize the role that small-scale farmers in Ethiopia play in making a difference. These farmers are often overlooked as they work hard to provide food for their families and communities, but their efforts have an immense impact on global food security.
Our mission is to be able to help these farmers by giving them consistent work and fair prices for their products, thus allowing them to help their families and contribute to their communities and villages. Please send us your comments and suggestions, as we believe there is always room for improvement. I would like to thank you for being here and wish you a pleasant browsing experience on our page.
